What is Pilates?

"The attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body

with a sound mind...."

                                                                                                  Joseph Pilates

Pilates is a complete conditioning system, using safe and body-friendly exercises to target the deep postural muscles. Mobilizing, stabilizing and stretching the body, the technique offers a total mind-body workout that improves posture, balance and co-ordination.

The low impact exercises are easy on joints and emphasize movement quality and flow

Developed and refined by Joseph Pilates over his lifetime, he described his method as integrating body, mind and spirit and promoted exercise quality over quantity.

No longer the exclusive domain of dancers and athletes, Pilates is for everyone!

"Strength that has effort in it is not what you need;

                                                                                                     you need the strength that is the result of ease."

                                                                                                                                                                                                 Ida Rolf

Which Approach?

As Pilates becomes increasingly popular, it is often difficult to distinguish between the different methods on the market.

Whilst puritans stick to Classical Pilates, the original form developed by Joseph Pilates, it is not always relevant to peoples’ needs. A contemporary approach modifies and adapts the original moves. Using up-to-date scientific research, it makes the exercises safe and clinically appropriate

Different things work for different people! Sticking rigidly to one particular system neither meets the client's needs nor does justice to the versatility of the technique.
